India, Dec. 15 -- The Government of India has issued a release:
In order to ensure unbiased coverage in household surveys being conducted by Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), the sample is selected using probability-based scientific selection methods. The sample spreads across all the States / Union Territories covering both rural and urban area and this ensures uniformity and completeness of the coverage.
MoSPI had conducted two consecutive Household Consumption Expenditure Surveys (HCES) in 2022-23 (during August 2022-July 2023) and 2023-24 (during August 2023-July 2024). The detailed findings of these surveys have been released in July 2024 and January 2025 respectively.
MoSPI conducted a Comprehensive Modular Survey (CMS) on Education during April - June, 2025 upon the request of Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL), Ministry of Education. The primary objective of the survey is to generate estimates of household expenditures on school education. The survey also aims to generate estimates of household expenditure on private coaching or tuition for students who are currently enrolled in school education. The survey report has been released in August 2025.
Various facets of integration of new technologies and upgradation of existing technologies are studied in MoSPI to assess their relevance and applicability in the surveys. Further, MoSPI conducts Urban Frame Survey (UFS) in five-year phases to prepare and maintain a frame of compact urban geographical units, which serve as sampling frame in urban sector, mainly for large scale Socio-Economic Surveys. From Phase 2017-22, UFS is being conducted in digital mode using Geo ICT tools with improved and robust versions of Mobile, Desktop and Web Based GIS solutions built on Bhuvan Platform, developed in collaboration with National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC).
