The Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), along with its organisations, has successfully undertaken the Special Campaign 6. It concluded today with a renewed commitment to institutionalise Swachhata and minimising pendency within the Ministry and its offices across the country. A key area of focus during this year's Campaign has been the 'Effective collection, segregation and disposal of E-waste', as per guidelines issued by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) on 13.08.2026. The Campaign was undertaken across all 132 identified locations of the Ministry including its Subordinate Offices, Autonomous Bodies, etc.
Special emphasis was laid on disposal of E-waste following due process, as per the provisions contained in the guidelines and SOP issued by DARPG. The activities underscored the importance of environmentally responsible waste management and sustainable administrative practices. The disposal of e-waste including scrap and redundant items resulted in the generation of revenue amounting to Rs. 64,18,158/- and reclamation of 32,854 sq. ft. of valuable office space.
Earlier, during the implementation phase, the Secretary (MoEFCC) undertook a comprehensive inspection of the premises of the Ministry at Indira Paryavaran Bhavan, New Delhi to review the status of collection and segregation of E-waste, scrap and redundant items stored. Emphasizing the importance of environmentally sound and responsible E-waste and other waste management, the Secretary directed that all segregated items be disposed of in a safe and scientific manner through CPCB registered E-waste recyclers, refurbishers and producers, in accordance with the prescribed guidelines.
Under various Parameters of Special Campaign 6, 100 per cent achievement has been recorded in the Cleanliness Campaign covering all 132 identified locations. The Ministry also achieved 100 per cent disposal of State Government References, Public Grievance Appeals, PMO References along with the prescribed targets for the review of Physical Files and E-files. The details of targets vis-a-vis achievement against all the Parameters under Special Campaign 6 are summarised below:-
The Special Campaign on Swachhata was launched in 2021 at the behest of the DARPG. Since its inception, the Campaign has evolved into a sustained institutional exercise aimed not only at promoting cleanliness and maintaining a hygienic working environment in Government Offices but also disposing of the pending matters, thereby enhancing administrative efficiency. The Preparatory Phase was conducted from 16th September, 2026 to 30th September, 2026, followed by the Implementation Phase commencing on 2nd October, 2026 and concluded on 31st October, 2026.
The outcomes reflect the MoEFCC's continued commitment towards strengthening institutional efficiency, promoting systematic record management, ensuring responsible disposal of E-waste, redundant materials and fostering cleanliness and sustainable administrative practices.
