Union Minister of Agriculture, Farmers Welfare and Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, today virtually addressed the concluding session of a three-day training program for farmers and livestock farmers organized at Rani Lakshmi Bai Central Agricultural University, Jhansi. Present on the occasion were Dr. M.L. Jat, Director General and DARE Secretary, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Dr. A.K. Singh, Vice Chancellor of the University, ICAR scientists, members of the university family, and farmers and livestock farmers from various states.
In his address, Union Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan praised the initiative of Rani Lakshmibai Central Agricultural University to provide practical training to farmers and livestock farmers, saying that practical knowledge and training, along with education, are essential for the progress of farmers. Congratulating the university family for this initiative, he said that every agricultural university and institute should regularly organize such training programs in their respective regions.
Mr. Chauhan told the trained farmers that the objective of this program is not just to receive training for three days, but to incorporate the learned techniques and scientific information into their daily activities. He said that the training received on selecting good and healthy animals, balanced diets, disease management, scientific breeding techniques, and various aspects of milk production will play an important role in increasing farmers' income.
The Union Minister stated that the government's goal is to empower farmers in animal husbandry by providing them with better training, thereby increasing milk production, maintaining animal health, and enhancing farmers' income. He stated that bringing prosperity and well-being to farmers' lives is a primary objective of his public life.
Mr. Chauhan stated that the desired increase in farmers' income is not possible solely through grain production. To achieve this, it is essential to adopt other agricultural activities, including animal husbandry. He urged farmers to adopt scientific animal husbandry methods and put the knowledge gained from training into practice.
He stated that the responsibility of agricultural universities and research institutes across the country is not only to impart theoretical knowledge, but also to bring positive changes to farmers' livelihoods by providing practical training. He expressed confidence that such training programs will engage more farmers, increase milk production, and significantly boost farmers' incomes.
During the programme, the trained farmers also shared their experiences and informed about the benefits they got from the training.
On this occasion, Dr. M.L. Jat, Director General of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research and Dairy Secretary, stated that adopting integrated farming systems is the need of the hour to rapidly increase farmers' income and protect the environment. He added that dairy farming must be considered an integral part of an integrated farming system and promoted. He expressed confidence that such training programs for farmers and livestock farmers will continue to be conducted at agricultural educational institutions, ensuring that the benefits of scientific techniques reach farmers directly.
