India, March 25 -- The Government of India has issued a release:

CHAIRMAN: Hon'ble Members, I refer with profound sorrow to the passing away of Shriman Datta Meghe Ji, a former Member of this House, on the 22nd of March, 2026, at the age of 89 years. He served as a Member of the Rajya Sabha from April, 2002 to April, 2008.

Born on the 11th of November, 1936, at Paunar in Wardha District of Maharashtra, Shriman Datta Meghe Ji started his legislative career as a Member of Maharashtra Legislative Assembly and served that Assembly for three terms. Shriman Meghe Ji also served as a Minister in the Government of Maharashtra holding several portfolios. He also served as a Member of the Lok Sabha for four terms.

Shriman Datta Meghe Ji made notable contributions in the fields of education and healthcare by establishing institutions that expanded access to higher education and medical services, particularly for the underprivileged.

In the passing away of Shriman Datta Meghe Ji, the nation has lost an able parliamentarian, a veteran legislator and a dedicated social worker.

We deeply mourn the passing away of Shriman Datta Meghe Ji.
