Ministry of Tourism through its various schemes of Destination Development including Swadesh Darshan 2.0 (SD2.0) scheme provides financial assistance to the State Governments(SGs)/UT Administrations (UTAs) for development of tourism infrastructure and experiences in the country including at tier II and tier III by extending financial assistance to the SGs/UTAs on receipt of the project proposals from them, in synergy with the scheme guidelines, Government directions, availability of funds, inter-se priority etc. Under SD2.0 scheme, the Ministry of Tourism has sanctioned 53 projects for Rs.2208.31 Crore till date. In addition, the Ministry under its 'Challenge Based Destination Development (CBDD)', an initiative under Swadesh Darshan scheme has also sanctioned 38 projects for Rs.697.94 Crore till date. Swadesh Darshan scheme is approved till March, 2026. Under SD2.0 scheme, financial assistance is provided by the Ministry of Tourism in the form of Grant-in-aid, whereas operation and management of the created projects and assets including revenue generation, is undertaken at the level of concerned State Government/UT Administration. Since the assets created through the schemes of the Ministry of Tourism are owned, operated and managed by the SGs/UTAs, the Ministry of Tourism has advised them to capture data related to footfall, revenue and employment.
