India, March 24 -- The Government of India has issued a release:

The Ministry of Rural Development informed Parliament today that the government has announced a new initiative called 'Self Help Enterprise Marts' (She-Marts) to empower rural women-led enterprises. These marts are envisioned as structured retail platforms where products manufactured by members of Self Help Groups (SHGs) can be displayed and sold directly to consumers. The initiative aims to establish better market linkages, increase visibility of local products, strengthen SHG institutions, and enable women entrepreneurs to expand and scale their businesses.

Under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihoods Mission, the "She-Marts" initiative facilitates market access and capacity building to enable women to establish sustainable enterprises. Dr. Chandra Shekhar Pemmasani, Minister of State for Rural Development, informed that the government has announced the establishment of "She-Marts" as community-owned retail outlets within cluster-level federations through enhanced and innovative financial instruments. No funds have been sanctioned/spent yet. This initiative will strengthen the rural economy and prove to be a significant step towards women's empowerment, providing millions of women across the country with the opportunity to become self-reliant.

Minister of State for Rural Development Dr. Chandra Shekhar Pemmasani gave this information in response to the question of Shri Etela Rajender.
