Replying to an unstarred question in Rajya Sabha today the Union Minister of State Shri. Durgadas Uikey said that the Ministry of Tribal Affairs is implementing Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Vikas Mission from 2021-22 to 2025-26 through Tribal Co-Operative Marketing Development Federation of India Limited (TRIFED) wherein financial assistance is provided to strengthen tribal entrepreneurship initiatives and to facilitate livelihood opportunities by promoting more efficient, equitable, self-managed, optimum use of natural resources, Minor Forest Produce/farm & non-farm and tribal product-based enterprises. The scheme is implemented through the State Nodal Departments (SNDs) and State Implementing Agencies (SIAs) in 25 states and 3 UTs across the country.
As on date, under the PMJVM scheme, 4,172 VDVKs have been sanctioned, associating 12.48 lakh tribal members, with a sanctioned amount of Rs. 619.17 crores. Out of the total sanctioned VDVKs, 2,817 VDVKs have been reported to be operationalized, with reported sales of around Rs. 158 crores.
Besides, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs has notified Minimum Support Price (MSP) for 87 Minor Forest Produce (MFP) items, a list of which is enclosed as Annexure. Since the inception of the program in 2013-14, State Governments have undertaken procurement of 2,67,954.36 MT MFPs amounting to Rs. 693.98 crore.
Additionally, funds are provided to States for creating basic infrastructure that supports tribal livelihoods and MFP procurement. This includes building godowns (storage facilities), haat bazaars (local market centers), and cold storage units. These facilities help in safe storage, better handling, value addition, and fair market access for tribal produce. The aim is to reduce wastage, improve prices for tribals, and strengthen the supply chain under the MSP for MFP and Van Dhanprogrammes.
