Under the 8th Nutrition Fortnight being celebrated by the Government of India from 09 to 23 April 2026, the Central Communication Bureau, Regional Office, Kota, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, in collaboration with the Department of Women and Child Development, Kota, organized a Nutritious Cuisine Exhibition and Rangoli and Awareness Programme and Quiz Competition at Lucky Burj Centre, Kota today.
Addressing the program, Sita Sharma, Deputy Director of the Women and Child Development Department, said that Anganwadi centers are the first school for the physical and mental development of children. She said that malnutrition can be eradicated through public participation. It is also important to spread awareness about healthy eating habits. All workers should play an important role in freeing women and children from malnutrition. She said that the Ministry of Women and Child Development organizes the Nutrition Fortnight every year as a nationwide campaign to raise awareness about nutrition, play-based education, and healthy eating through a mass movement.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Rameshwar Lal Meena, Assistant Director, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, stated that the primary objective of the Nutrition Fortnight is to maximize children's brain development in the first six years of life. He stated that over 85 percent of brain development occurs in the first 1,000 days of life, between the ages of 0 and 6, for which balanced nutrition, sensitive care, and early learning are essential. Alok Sharma, Child Development Project Officer, stated that the Poshan Abhiyaan (National Nutrition Mission) is a flagship program of the Government of India, launched on March 8, 2018, to reduce malnutrition, stunting, anemia, and underweight. It adopts a holistic approach by leveraging technology, public participation, and strengthening Anganwadi workers to improve the nutritional status of children, adolescent girls, and pregnant women. The campaign aims to promote play-based learning and reduce screen time for children aged 3-6.
At the end of the program, an oral quiz competition based on the Nutrition Fortnight was also organized, in which the participants participated enthusiastically. The winners were honored by the department by giving them prizes. On this occasion, the message of the importance of nutrition was given by organizing an exhibition of nutritious dishes and making rangoli. The program was conducted by regional publicity assistant Prem Singh Yadav. A large number of women and children including women supervisor Savitri Vijay, Anganwadi workers Santosh, Nisha Saini, Teeja Mahawar, Rachna Soni, Saroj Srivastava, Manju Mahawar, assistant Shakuntala Saini, mentor teacher Mrs. Rekha participated in the program.
