State/ UT-wise number of candidates trained under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) during the last five years and the current year, including in Tamil Nadu, is given at Annexure.
The PMKVY 4.0 is a demand driven Scheme and there is no provision for State-wise fund allocation. However, in the last three years starting from FY 2022-23 and in the current FY 2026-27, Rs.2,392.37 crore has been released for implementation of the scheme.
Under PMKVY 4.0, training has been standardized through the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF), aligning courses with industry needs and national priorities. Under the Scheme, training has been aligned to the requirements of new-age and futuristic job roles such as AI, Robotics, Internet of Things (IoT), Semiconductor, Drone technology, Solar, 3D Printing, etc. as per changing requirement and market demand. To meet emerging technology demands, 600+ new-age and futuristic courses have been introduced. As on 30.06.2026, around 5.44 lakh candidates have been trained/oriented in new-age and futuristic job roles under PMKVY 4.0 across the country.
PMKVY is a demand driven scheme accessible to every section of society including Women, Scheduled Castes (SCs)/ Scheduled Tribes (STs) and other marginalized communities. The Scheme has a provision of Special Projects which are targeted towards ensuring coverage of under-represented social groups - SC/ ST/ Women/ PwDs and geographic areas such as Aspirational Districts, Tribal districts, etc. Special attention has been given to women, tribal communities, and other marginalized groups in rural areas to promote their participation in the skill development programs.
In order to improve inclusivity by ensuring that SC, ST, women, and other marginalized communities can undertake skill training and eventually access gainful wage and self-employment, boarding & lodging and transportation facilities are provided as per Common Norms. For non-residential training, conveyance/ transportation costs are covered for women and PwDs. Additionally, Rs.5,000 is provided for assistive devices, aids, and appliances for PwD candidates. All candidates are also covered under one-year accidental insurance for additional social protection.
