India, Feb. 5 -- The Government of India has issued a release:
To accelerate the goal of self-sufficiency in pulses in the country, a national consultation and strategy meeting will be held on Saturday, February 7 , 2026 , at the Food Legume Research Platform (FLRP) in Amla, Sehore district , chaired by Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union Minister of Agriculture, Farmers Welfare and Rural Development. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav and agriculture ministers from pulse-producing states will also participate.
This important programme is being organised by the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare , Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare , Government of India in collaboration with Indian Council of Agricultural Research ( ICAR) and International Research Centre for Arid Zone Agriculture ( ICARDA) .
The program will begin with tree plantation on February 7th in the morning. Thereafter , Union Agriculture Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan will visit the demonstrations of advanced technologies and new pulse varieties in the fields and interact with farmers. He will also inaugurate the administrative building , the Farmers Training Center, and state-of-the-art laboratories related to plant genomics , tissue culture , breeding, and pathology. Furthermore , after visiting the exhibition on improved pulse seeds , products, and technologies, the national consultation on the " Pulses Self-Reliance National Mission " will commence. The "Pulses Mission Portal " will also be launched on this occasion, and improved varieties of seeds will be symbolically distributed to progressive farmers.
At the event, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan will deliver a detailed address on the government's strategy for pulse production , MSP, seed systems , value chains, and increasing farmers' incomes. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav will also address the event.
Agriculture ministers from several pulse producing states including Odisha , Punjab , Madhya Pradesh , Chhattisgarh , Bihar , Gujarat , Uttar Pradesh and Haryana will participate in this national consultation , while the Agriculture Minister of West Bengal will join the meeting through video conferencing.
Top scientists from ICAR and ICARDA , NAFED-NCCF, National Seeds Corporation , senior officials from various states , Farmer Producer Organizations ( FPOs), cooperatives , partners from seed and processing sector and representatives from plant - based food sector will come together on a single platform to discuss concrete strategies for new varieties , seed production , disease management , mechanization , value addition and market linkage .
According to Union Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan , this important mission under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi aims to make India completely self-reliant in pulses , reduce dependence on imports and ensure fair prices along with good yield to farmers. In this national consultation, issues like seeds , production , processing , value addition , storage , marketing and timely procurement at MSP will be discussed in detail , with special focus on major pulse crops like tur , urad , and masoor, so that the entire pulse value chain from farm to plate can be strengthened.
This will further strengthen the spirit of cooperative federalism between the National Consultation Centre and the States and help in preparing a clear and implementable future plan of action based on the experiences and suggestions of various stakeholders.
Shri Shivraj Singh said that our aim is that this initiative should not only give a new direction to the pulses sector , but also make a historic contribution in increasing the income of farmers , ensuring nutritional security and strengthening the resolve of self-reliant India in pulses.
