The Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh, stated that the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying (DAHD), Government of India, is implementing various schemes and programmes to complement and supplement the efforts of State Governments in strengthening, modernising and promoting the dairy sector. These initiatives are aimed at enhancing milk production and productivity, improving dairy infrastructure and value-chain development, strengthening milk processing and marketing facilities, and improving the overall efficiency and sustainability of the dairy sector.

As of June 2026, 36,611 new Dairy Cooperative Societies (DCS) have been organised and 34,557 DCS strengthened at the village level with financial assistance under National Programme for Dairy Development (NPDD), Further, about 168 lakh litres per day (LLPD) of milk chilling capacity has been created, and 76,748 quality testing devices distributed. Under Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund (AHIDF), projects with a total milk processing and value-addition capacity of 418 LLPD have been approved in both cooperative and private sectors.

The ongoing schemes aim to strengthen and modernize the infrastructure for milk collection, cold storage, processing, and value addition in the dairy sector. These efforts provide an organized market for milk producers and help improve their income.
