India, July 9 -- The Government of India has issued a release:

The Indian Navy's Sail Training Ship (STS) INS Sudarshini successfully completed its voyage to New York Port, United States of America, on 8 July 2026. This marks another significant milestone under the ongoing 'Lokayan 2026' inter-oceanic expedition. The voyage showcased India's rich maritime heritage and further strengthened the strategic and cultural partnership between India and the United States.

As part of the Indian Navy's 10-month inter-oceanic deployment, INS Sudarshini, an indigenously built three-masted barque, represented India at the 'International Naval Review 250' and 'SAIL4TH 250' celebrations held to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the independence of the United States of America. A major highlight of the visit was INS Sudarshini's participation in the spectacular 'Parade of Sail', during which INS Sudarshini proudly flew the Indian flag, passing past the Statue of Liberty and sailing through the Varansi River, alongside a fleet of majestic ships and naval vessels from other countries.

During its stay in Brooklyn, INS Sudarshini served as India's floating goodwill ambassador. During this period, the ship welcomed over 1,000 visitors, including people of Indian origin, local citizens, and maritime enthusiasts. Visitors were provided with information on the Indian Navy's sailing training traditions and India's rich maritime heritage.

The ship hosted several distinguished guests, including the Consul General of India in New York, Mr. Binay Shrikant Pradhan, and the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations, Mr. Parvathaneni Harish. They interacted with the ship's crew and appreciated the ship's role in promoting India's maritime heritage as well as strengthening people-to-people maritime ties between the two countries.

A 'State Dinner' held onboard brought together senior diplomats, military officials and distinguished guests, providing an opportunity to further strengthen the growing India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.

Following the successful completion of all events, INS Sudarshini departed New York Port for Boston, where she will participate in the upcoming 'Sail Boston 2026' event. The ship will continue to carry the Indian Navy's message of friendship, maritime cooperation and goodwill across the oceans as part of the 'Lokayan 2026' campaign.
