RANCHI, India, Sept. 12 -- Jharkhand High Court issued the following order on Aug. 12:
1. These writ petitions are pending on the docket of this Court for over a decade and relate to the enforcement of the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014.
2. The Court has passed numerous orders to ensure that the provisions of the aforesaid Act are strictly enforced and specific directions have been passed directing the respondents to implement the entire directives as contained in para 21 of the judgment of the Hon'ble Supreme Court in the case of Maharashtra Ekta Hawkers Union and Another Vs. Municipal Corporation, Greater Mumbai and Others, (2014) 1 SCC 490.
3. Taking into consideration the orders that have been passed from time to time, we see no reason to keep these petitions alive as they have served their purposes.
4. Accordingly, we deem it appropriate to close these petitions reserving a liberty to the aggrieved parties to approach this Court by way of separate petitions.
5. Needless to state that State and its Agencies shall ensure strict compliance of the provisions of the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act, 2014, as also the directives passed in Maharashtra Ekta Hawkers Union (supra) and any default in obeying such directives shall be constituted as a contempt of the orders of this Court.
6. These Writ petitions are accordingly disposed of.
