India, Jan. 27 -- The Government of India has issued a release:
Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, while reacting to the Free Trade Agreement between India and the European Union in Raipur, said that this agreement is not just a trade agreement , but a symbol of India's growing global leadership and economic strength.
He said that the India-EU Free Trade Agreement is a historic milestone that will take the India-EU partnership to new heights. Agricultural products important to India - such as tea , coffee , spices , table grapes , cucumbers and pickled cucumbers , dried onions , sweetcorn , selected fruits and vegetables, and processed foods - will significantly benefit from this agreement. Respecting mutual sensitivities in key sectors, the agreement balances export growth with domestic priorities and ensures benefits for the farming communities on both sides. This is a major step forward for Indian agriculture, and congratulations to the country's farming community.
He said that today India is not only progressing on its own , but also taking the entire world along. This agreement will open new opportunities for Indian farmers , agricultural products, and the rural economy. India's agricultural power is now visible to the world - India has reached the first position in rice production, and our agricultural growth rate has surpassed even the Green Revolution era.
Speaking in detail about the Free Trade Agreement, Mr. Chauhan said that this agreement between India and the European Union will break new ground in agriculture , food processing , exports, and investment. It will provide Indian agricultural products with better access to European markets , provide farmers with fair prices for their produce, and create new employment opportunities in rural areas. This agreement is a strong and far-reaching step towards a self-reliant and developed India.
Mr. Chauhan said that the interests of farmers are paramount. Poor quality pesticides and counterfeit seeds are devastating farmers ; this will no longer be tolerated. To this end, the government is introducing a stricter Pesticide Act and a new Seed Act , ensuring quality inputs and a secure future for farmers.
He further stated that to achieve the goal of a developed India, it is essential to create employment-rich , poverty-free, and self-reliant villages. In line with this commitment, the " Developed India Ji-Ram-Ji Act " is being implemented nationwide , enabling villages to emerge as fully developed villages, and placing rural India firmly in the mainstream of development.
