Business Activities Undertaken by the FFPOs
The Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) implemented by the Department of Fisheries, Government of India inter-alia provides financial assistance for setting up of Fish Farmers Producer Organizations (FFPOs) to economically empower the fishers, fish farmers and enhance their bargaining power. The Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying during the last five years (FY 2021-22 to FY 2025-26) has approved projects worth of Rs.544.86 crore for formation of 2195 FFPOs including formation of 195 new FFPOs and formation of 2000 existing Primary Fisheries Cooperative Societies(PFCSs) as FFPOs in the country. This project is implemented through four central agencies namely National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), Small Farmers Agri-business Consortium (SFAC), National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) and National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC). It is reported that so far a total 2104 Fish Farmers Producer Organizations (FFPOs) have been formed in the country including 192 FFPOs in the State of Andhra Pradesh. The State-wise details of the Fish Farmers Producer Organizations (FFPOs) formed in the country under PMMSY as on date are furnished at Annexure-I.
It is reported that 10 new Fish Farmers Producer Organizations (FFPOs) have been formed and registered in Andhra Pradesh with a Government support of Rs 328.20 lakh under the PMMSY. The supports extended to such newly formed FFPOs include incubation, management cost and equity grant. The district-wise details of the newly formed FFPOs in Andhra Pradesh are furnished at Annexure-II. In addition, 182 existing Primary Fisheries Cooperative Societies(PFCSs) have been formed as Fish Farmers Producer Organizations (FFPOs) at a total investment of Rs 963.73 lakh covering management cost and equity grant in the State of Andhra Pradesh. This includes formation of 34 primary fisheries cooperatives as FFPO at a cost of Rs. 165.82 lakh in Konaseema District of Andhra Pradesh. The District-wise details of these 182 existing primary fisheries cooperatives formed as FFPO in the State of Andhra Pradesh under PMMSY are furnished at Annexure-III. It is reported that a total 39,022 members are associated with aforementioned 192 functional FFPOs including 6136 members in new FFPOs and remaining 32,886 members of existing PFCSs formed as FFPOs in the State of Andhra Pradesh.
