India, July 22 -- The Government of India issued the following news release:

As per latest data published by National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) pertaining to the year 2022; State-wise and year-wise details of seizures and number of cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act during 2018 to 2022 is at Annexure-I and II respectively.

Inquiry, findings and the action taken in seizure of huge quantities of drugs which involve international rackets are conducted by the respective Drug Law Enforcement Agencies. During the period 2020 to 2025 (upto May), NCB has registered 116 major cases wherein 109318 kgs of drugs have been seized. NCB has consistently focused on arresting suppliers, receivers and carriers. Besides, financial investigations are conducted in all major cases with the objective of dismantling the financial backbone of the drug trafficking networks. In case of repeat offenders, efforts are being made to ensure action under the provision of Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PITNDPS Act), 1988.

To assess and know the magnitude of the problem of substance use in the country, a comprehensive national level Survey on the 'Magnitude of Substance Abuse in India' was conducted by MoSJE through National Drug Dependence Treatment Center (NDDTC), AIIMS, New Delhi which was published in 2019. As per the Survey, the Prevalence (in %) and estimated number of adults and children who are currently users of various psychoactive substances is as under:
