India, April 14 -- The Government of India has issued a release:
Adding a new chapter to the country's modern infrastructure development, today the Honorable Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, inaugurated the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor, built at a cost of Rs.12,000 crore, connecting Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. Union Minister Shri Nitin Gadkari was present on the occasion. This 213-km-long, 6-lane, access-controlled, high-speed corridor will reduce travel time between Delhi and Dehradun from 6 hours to 3 hours and provide seamless connectivity between Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. Shri Gadkari expressed his gratitude to the Honorable Prime Minister for this important corridor.
This high-speed multi-lane corridor passes through the states of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. The project implementation includes the construction of 10 interchanges, three railway overbridges (ROBs), four major bridges, and 12 wayside amenities to ensure seamless high-speed connectivity. The corridor is equipped with an advanced traffic management system (ATMS) to provide a safer and more efficient travel experience for commuters.
Considering the ecological sensitivity, rich biodiversity, and wildlife of the project area, the corridor has been designed with several features aimed at significantly reducing human-wildlife conflict. To ensure the unhindered movement of wild animals, the project incorporates several special wildlife conservation features. These include a 12-kilometer-long wildlife elevated corridor, one of the longest in Asia, which will combine development with environmental protection. The corridor also includes eight animal passages, two 200-meter-long elephant underpasses, and a 370-meter-long tunnel near the Daat Kali Temple.
The Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor will enhance connectivity between major tourist and economic centers. Easing access to the Char Dham, Rishikesh, Haridwar, and Mussoorie will provide a new impetus to tourism. The project will promote industrial development in Baghpat, Shamli, and Saharanpur, generating employment opportunities, and boosting the woodcarving industry in Saharanpur and the paper industry in Muzaffarnagar. It will facilitate faster movement of agricultural products, increasing farmers' incomes. Access to health and education centers will be facilitated, and the standard of living will improve. This corridor will play a vital role in strengthening regional economic development by opening new avenues for trade and development across the region.
