Abstract: ZnO Nanoparticle Enhanced Low-Vapor Industrial Aldehyde Disinfectant Composition Abstract The present invention discloses a zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticle-enhanced glutaraldehyde-based industrial disinfectant composition and method for reducing toxic aldehyde vapor emission during industrial sanitation operations. The disinfectant composition comprises glutaraldehyde solution, ZnO nanoparticles, polyethylene glycol (PEG), distilled water, and optional antimicrobial enhancement agents. ZnO nanoparticles are dispersed within the disinfectant composition to adsorb volatile aldehyde molecules and form a vapor-suppressing interfacial barrier, thereby minimizing airborne aldehyde release while maintaining antimicrobial efficacy. Referring to Figure 1, the method includes dispersing ZnO nanoparticles in distilled water (102), adding polyethylene glycol stabilizer (103), subjecting the mixture to stirring and ultrasonication (104), gradually introducing the nanoparticle suspension into glutaraldehyde solution (105), homogenizing the composition (106), stabilizing the prepared formulation (107), and performing quality testing (108) to obtain the final nanoparticle- enhanced disinfectant composition (109). The invention improves occupational safety, reduces environmental aldehyde exposure, and provides effective pathogen control for poultry, hatchery, livestock, veterinary, and industrial fumigation applications.
