Abstract: The present invention generally relates to the hydrothermal synthesis of graphene oxide/lanthanum oxide (GLO) composite, by methodically varying the concentration of La2O3 to examine its impact on the composite’s electrochemical performance. The composites were characterized using Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM), High Resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy (HRTEM), X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman Spectroscopy, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area analysis, and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). Electrochemical performance was conducted using cyclic voltammetry (CV), galvanostatic charge-discharge (GCD), and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) measurements in a two and three-electrode configuration in 1 M H2SO4 electrolyte. The results exemplify that La2O3 concentration significantly influences the electrochemical properties of the GLO composites. Among all the composites, the optimized GLO100 sample exhibited the highest specific capacitance of 2100 and 697 F g- 1 at 1 A g-1 in three and two-electrode setups, respectively, outperforming GLO25, GLO150, and GLO300, with excellent capacitance retention of over 10.000 cycles. These results suggest the potential of optimized GLO composites as a promising electrode material for high-performance supercapacitors.
