MUMBAI, India, June 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621036641 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Bombay on March 25, 2026, for Whole Egg Yolk–derived Liposomal Formulation For Ligand-Free Hepatic Delivery Of Therapeutic Peptides.

Inventors include Roop Mallik; Archisman Mahapatra; and Subham Kumar Tripathy.

The application for the patent was published on June 12, 2026, under issue no. 24/2026.

Abstract: Whole egg yolk-derived liposomal formulation for ligand-free hepatic delivery of therapeutic peptides is disclosed herein. The formulation comprises liposomes derived directly from whole egg yolk and encapsulating at least one therapeutic peptide. Embodiments herein further disclose a method for preparing the liposomal formulation. The method is performed in an aqueous environment without the use of organic solvents, thin-film hydration, reverse-phase evaporation, ethanol injection, polymer coatings, permeation enhancers, or receptor-targeting ligands. The disclosed formulation enables effective in vivo hepatic delivery of the encapsulated therapeutic peptide following oral administration, while substantially reducing systemic toxicity and protecting the peptide from degradation within the gastrointestinal (GI) environment.
