MUMBAI, India, July 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641076002 A) filed by Kalasalingam Academy Of Research And Education on June 19, 2026, for Wheelchair Seat With Coordinated Elevation And Lateral Displacement For Self-Transfer Assistance.

Abstract: A wheelchair-seat-~assembly with eoordinated elevation and-lateral displacement is ~ disclosed for facilitating safe, self-transfer assistance between a mobile wheel chair (1) and an adjacent cot surface. The device comprises a dual linear lifter (3) mounted on the chassis of the wheel chair (1) to vertically elevate a sitting pad carriage (4). The 10 sitting pad carriage (4) supports a horizontal linear slider (5) and a rotatably driven lead screw (6). A sitting pad holding hub (7) is engaged with the lead screw (6) and slider (5) to move a sitting pad (2) transversely. Vertical arm supports (9) holding hand resting arms (8) are adapted to retract downwards completely inside an arm support retract cavity ( 1 0) formed within the chair frame. This structural combination allows the 15 sitting pad (2) to rise to the height of a cot and slide laterally over its edge, eliminating gaps and manual lifting
