Abstract: An Ankle-Foot Orthosis (AFO) is disclosed wherein the structural base material itself functions as a piezoresistive sensing element, eliminating the need for externally mounted discrete sensors. The device comprises three functionally distinct sensing zones a plantar zone for pressure and step-count detection, a peri-articular conductive-strap zone for limbswelling detection, and one or more bony-prominence zones for localized temperature detection formed by embedding graphite powder within defined regions of a polypropylene base structure. Each bony-prominence zone further comprises a primary sensing patch and an adjacent, mechanically shielded reference patch, the differential output of which computationally isolates pressure-attributable resistance change from temperatureattributable resistance change. Each sensing zone is coupled, via a voltage-divider circuit, to an embedded microcontroller, which establishes a patient-specific baseline reading, classifies deviation and rate-of-deviation therefrom into structured risk categories, and derives ambulatory step count from the plantar signal. A display unit, mounted on the device, presents the risk status of each zone in a priority-ordered sequence, displaying the zone of highest determined risk preferentially, thereby providing early, non-diagnostic risk indication for pressure ulceration, compartment syndrome, and deep vein thrombosis without dependence on external computing devices.
