Abstract: The present invention relates to a smart waste segregation system designed to automatically identify and separate biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste materials. The system uses sensors such as moisture sensors, metal sensors, and infrared sensors to detect the characteristics of waste when it is inserted into the unit. A programmable microcontroller processes the sensor inputs and determines the type of waste. Based on the classification, an automated motorized flap or gate mechanism directs the waste into the appropriate collection bin. Biodegradable waste such as food scraps, vegetable waste, and paper is collected separately, while non- biodegradable waste such as plastic, metal, and glass is directed into another bin. This invention reduces the need for manual waste sorting, improves hygiene, and increases the speed and accuracy of segregation. By separating waste at the source, it supports efficient recycling of non-biodegradable materials and composting of biodegradable waste. The system helps reduce landfill waste, minimizes environmental pollution, and promotes sustainable waste management practices. It is compact, cost-effective, and suitable for homes, schools, hospitals, industries, public places, and smart city applications.
