Abstract: ABSTRACT WASTE-GYPSUM-DERIVED CALCIUM SULFATE RADIATIVE COOLING COATING AND PROCESS The present disclosure provides a passive daytime radiative cooling system (100) comprising a building-envelope substrate (110) and a coating layer (120) of a wide-bandgap inorganic pigment dispersed in a fluoropolymer binder, the coating layer (120) configured to reflect incident solar radiation (130) and to emit thermal infrared radiation (134) in the atmospheric transparency window of 8 to 13 micrometers. Pigment particles (122) consist of anhydrite II calcium sulfate derived from gypsum-containing construction or demolition waste. A binder matrix (124) comprises polyvinylidene fluoride, the pigment particles (122) being distributed through a full thickness of the binder matrix (124). Interstitial air voids (126) are distributed throughout the coating layer (120), the coating layer (120) having a pigment volume concentration exceeding a critical pigment volume concentration such that the interstitial air voids (126) form pigment-binder-air scattering interfaces that provide broadband solar reflectance and thermal infrared emissivity, thereby enabling passive radiative cooling.
