Abstract: ABSTRACT: The present invention relates to a biodegradable palm-leaf-based dental fluoride application tray for topical fluoride delivery. The tray comprises a substantially single-piece molded structure fabricated from naturally derived palm-leaf material and having an anatomically curved tray body, a concave cavity configured to receive and temporarily retain a fluoride-containing composition, raised peripheral retaining margins and an outwardly projecting handle integrally formed with the tray body. The tray is manufactured from naturally fallen mature palm leaves through controlled processing comprising collection, cleaning, drying, heat treatment, compression molding, anatomical forming, cooling, trimming, sterilization and packaging. The tray may be produced in maxillary and mandibular configurations and in different sizes according to dental arch dimensions. In an evaluation of the developed trays, the mean tensile strength was 2.96 ± 0.06 MPa, no visible dimensional change was observed under the evaluated dimensional-stability conditions and mean weight loss was 30.00 ± 2.27% after 28 days under the evaluated biodegradability conditions. The invention provides a natural-material-based disposable dental delivery tray configured for topical fluoride application.
