MUMBAI, India, June 30 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541058056 A) filed by Anna University on June 17, 2025, for Vortical Flow Structure-Based Jet Engine For Thrust Generation.
Inventors include Thean Mani Rajan Kanagaraj; and V. Suresh.
The application for the patent was published on June 26, 2026, under issue no. 26/2026.
Abstract: A vortical flow structure-based jet engine (100) for thrust generation is disclosed. The jet engine comprises a rotating shaft (102), a radial intake (108), an intake chamber (110), a first rotating disc (112), a thrusting chamber (114), a second rotating disc (126), a combustion chamber (118), an acoustically confined annular region (120), a radial flow adjustable zone (122), a rear center body (124), an exhaust chamber (130) and a nozzle (134). Rotation of the shaft and rotating discs generates a vortical flow structure within the engine, establishing a radial pressure gradient having relatively lower pressure proximate the rotating shaft and relatively higher pressure at an outer peripheral region. Fuel introduced into the combustion chamber is ignited by circumferentially arranged spark plugs, whereby combustion increases tangential momentum of the vortical flow structure and amplifies the radial pressure gradient. Pressurized fluid is directed through the exhaust chamber and expanded through the nozzle to generate an axial exhaust (136) stream and thrust.
