MUMBAI, India, July 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641078683 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Science on June 25, 2026, for Voltage-Tunable Piezoelectric Micromachined Acoustic Transducer System And Method For Tuning Acoustic Response Thereof.

Inventors include Uma Ganguly; Naveen Negi; and Bhagwati Prasad.

The application for the patent was published on July 03, 2026, under issue no. 27/2026.

Abstract: A system (102) for tuning acoustic response includes micromachined vibrating membrane (104). System (102) further includes first conductive electrode layer (108) disposed on first surface of ferroelectric thin film (106) and second conductive electrode layer (110) disposed on second surface of ferroelectric thin film (106) opposite to first surface, thereby forming metal-ferroelectric-metal structure. System (102) includes bias circuit (112) electrically connected to first conductive electrode layer (108) and second conductive electrode layer (110), bias circuit (112) applying DC bias voltage across ferroelectric thin film (106). Ferroelectric thin film (106) exhibits capacitance and dielectric permittivity that vary with DC bias voltage applied across ferroelectric thin film (106), thereby modulating at least one of acoustic impedance, electromechanical coupling coefficient, quality factor, and resonant frequency of system (102) without altering physical geometry of micromachined vibrating membrane (104).
