The application for the patent was published on July 03, 2026, under issue no. 27/2026.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a grip-aware gait assessment system implemented using VLSI architectures and method using a hand grip-force sensor, a hip-mounted inertial measurement unit (IMU) and a wearable processing unit. The system simultaneously acquires grip-force and body motion data from the grip-force sensor and IMU respectively during walking activities. Extracted grip and gait features are processed to determine the influence of gripping actions on gait behaviour. The invention includes architectures with optimal hardware utilization for Grip Influence Factor (GIF) and Gait Change Index (GCI) to evaluate the gripping influence on the walking characteristics and changes in the walking patterns compared with baseline walking pattern. A grip-gait correlation module implemented which computes correlation score based on GIF and GCI to determine the influence of grip on gaiting and a rule-based assessment engine classify walking conditions into normal gait, grip-affected gait, unstable gait and fall-risk gait using the correlation score as input. The invention provides an optimal, portable and computationally efficient solution for healthcare monitoring, rehabilitation assessment, elderly care and assistive technology applications.
