Abstract: ABSTRACT This invention introduces a novel non-electronic visual compliance monitoring system incorporated into removable functional orthodontic appliances. The invention addresses the long-standing clinical challenge of objectively assessing patient compliance with removable appliance wear, which is essential for successful dentofacial orthopaedic correction. The compliance system comprises a biocompatible dye dispersed within a diffusion-regulating polymeric carrier matrix and incorporated into the polymeric baseplate of a removable functional orthodontic appliance. Upon intraoral exposure, the dye undergoes controlled, progressive fading due to interaction with saliva, temperature variations, pH fluctuations, and mechanical wear. The extent of fading correlates with cumulative appliance wear time and provides a direct visual indicator of patient compliance. The system is non-electronic, cost-effective, tamper-resistant, and clinically practical. The invention covers any effective concentration of dye and carrier matrix sufficient to achieve visible baseline coloration and controlled fading, thereby preventing minor compositional alterations from constituting a separate invention.
