Abstract: ABSTRACT VISION-BASED MONITORING SYSTEM FOR INTRAVENOUS THERAPY A vision-based monitoring system (100) for intravenous therapy comprises an image acquisition device (110) configured to capture image data of an intravenous therapy setup including images of intravenous tubing and an insertion site on a patient, a memory (120) storing trained deep learning classification models (130), and a processor (140) coupled to the image acquisition device (110) and memory (120). The processor (140) receives image data from the image acquisition device (110), processes the image data through a first trained deep learning classification model (131) to detect presence or absence of air bubbles within the intravenous tubing, processes the image data through additional trained deep learning classification models (132, 133, 134) to detect local insertion site complications including at least one of redness, swelling, and bruising, and generates an alert signal when at least one of air bubbles or local insertion site complications is detected.
