MUMBAI, India, Sept. 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641105951 A) filed by Sri Eshwar College Of Engineering on September 02, 2026, for Vigil – Vigilant Intelligent Geofenced Incident And Line-Monitoring.
Inventors include Ms. R. Geetha Rajakumari; Mr. N. S. Aswin; and Mr. S. Ashwin.
The application for the patent was published on September 11, 2026, under issue no. 37/2026.
Abstract: This is the architecture diagram of the AI-based multi-sensor smart pole technology for intelligent overhead electrical distribution line monitoring. The smart pole consists of current, voltage, vibration, pole tilt, environmental, and motion sensors, used for real-time monitoring of electrical infrastructure. Processing of sensor data will be done by performing multi-sensor data fusion and fault classification, which will help in reliable detection of conductor faults and minimize false alerts. Information about detected faults is transmitted via wireless communication to a central monitoring system, where fault location, fault status, and system health are displayed using a utility dashboard. There is a geofencing facility for public safety in the technology. This facility is able to notify people inside the predefined hazard zone. When any movement of human beings or animals is found near the fault location, audio and visual alerts are generated locally. The effectiveness of VIGIL is enhanced by incorporating multi-sensor measurements, edge computing, intelligent fault detection and communication technology for improving the safety, reliability and efficiency of the distribution networks. The system does not depend on visual inspections and single sensory factors, but instead utilizes multiple sensor readings in order to verify any faults before issuing an alarm. It employs modular and wireless technologies in order to make installation easier on current or new utility poles. The stored information from sensors and faults can be analyzed in order to determine any fault trends and performance of the equipment.
