MUMBAI, India, Sept. 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641100132 A) filed by Saveetha Institute Of Medical And Technical Sciences on August 19, 2026, for Vibratory Micro- Dry Tip.

Inventors include Keshav Rajesh; Harini K; and Deepak Nallaswamy Veeraiyan.

The application for the patent was published on September 11, 2026, under issue no. 37/2026.

Abstract: A corded, dental-unit-connected handpiece device that uses high-frequency, lowamplitude ultrasonic vibrations to mechanically displace thin films of saliva and moisture from tooth surfaces, creating a clean, dry field suitable for both adhesive bonding procedures and intraoral digital scanning — without the use of compressed air or suction. The handpiece is a slim, pen-form instrument connected to the dental unit via a standard coupling, housing an integrated piezoelectric transducer that vibrates a fine, single-use disposable tip at a fixed ultrasonic frequency. The vibrating tip, when applied to a moist tooth surface, mechanically displaces the saliva film laterally through acoustically driven fluid motion, producing a dry, non-desiccated surface within seconds. The fixed ultrasonic operating frequency delivers consistent, clinically effective drying performance without requiring clinician adjustment. The device addresses the wellrecognized limitations of compressed air drying — including dentin desiccation, patient discomfort, and contamination risk from dental unit waterline and air line contamination — by replacing pneumatic moisture displacement with a gentle, controlled mechanical alternative that preserves the hydration state of the dentinal tubules while achieving a clinically adequate dry surface for adhesive and scanning procedures.
