MUMBAI, India, July 30 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641088887 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Chennai on July 21, 2026, for Vehicle Door Opening Collision Prevention System And Method Thereof.
Inventors include Sai Prashanth Ramesh. M; Subacharan. R; Aswin Bharathi. M. J; and D. Kavitha.
The application for the patent was published on July 24, 2026, under issue no. 30/2026.
Abstract: A vehicle door opening collision prevention system (100) includes at least one proximity sensing unit (104) mounted on or adjacent to a vehicle body (102) to detect approaching objects and generate proximity data indicative of distance and relative velocity. A door state detection unit (106) detects a door opening intent or movement and generates a trigger signal. At least one auxiliary imaging sensor (108) operatively coupled to a control and decision processing unit (110) including one or more processors (110A) and memory (110B) storing instructions to: receive proximity data, detect door opening intent, determine a potential collision risk by correlating proximity data with the trigger signal, selectively activate imaging sensor (108) upon concurrence of the trigger signal and a potential collision risk, captures imaging data, fuse multi-sensor data, validate the collision risk, and generate an occupant-perceivable alert using an alert generation unit (112) only upon confirmation of validated collision risk.
