MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641096253 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Chennai on August 08, 2026, for Variable-Geometry Passive Acoustic Amplification Device And Method Thereof.

Inventors include Ashwin Singh Slathia; Abhiram Sharma; Saksham Anand; and G Y Mythili.

The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to a variable geometry passive acoustic amplification device (100) for delivering selectable amplification and acoustic enhancement. The device (100) comprises a horn body (102) formed of multiple interlocking conical sections (104) with guide ribs (106) that enable smooth telescoping adjustment while preserving acoustic impedance continuity. An adjustable iris aperture (108) is integrated at the horn mouth, implemented through a cam-lock ring (108-2) with a spiral grooved cam track (108-4). The cam track (108-4) actuates radially translating blades (108-8) via follower pins (108-10), thereby permitting tuning of mouth diameter to control radiation impedance, directivity, and tonal balance. Internally, sliding acoustic baffles (110) are repositionable along the horn’s axial length to modify resonance and frequency emphasis. At the base, a compliant docking adapter (112) formed of elastomeric material conforms to varied portable device speaker (116) geometries and includes a bayonet locking interface for airtight acoustic coupling.
