Abstract: An eco-friendly foot cover and a method of manufacturing the same from wheat straw are disclosed. Wheat straw, an agricultural residue otherwise disposed of by open-field burning, is collected, cleaned, softened and dried, and mechanically separated into a long-fiber fraction and a fine powder fraction. These fractions are combined, in different proportions, with a starch-based binder blend selected from corn starch, tapioca starch, potato starch and rice starch, together with a plasticizer such as glycerol, to form a base layer mixture and an upper layer mixture. The base layer mixture, having a higher fiber-and-powder content, is cast into a foot-shaped mould and dried to form a mechanically strong, compact base layer, while the upper layer mixture is cast and dried to form a relatively lighter, more flexible upper layer. The upper layer is then shaped and stitched over the base layer along its peripheral edge to define a foot-receiving cavity. The resulting layered foot cover exhibits tensile strength, flexural recovery and soil biodegradability suitable for short-term use, providing a low-cost, renewable, fully biodegradable alternative to conventional plastic-based and synthetic foot covers.
