MUMBAI, India, July 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202521041462 A) filed by Jio Platforms Limited on April 29, 2025, for User Equipment And Method For Autonomous Inter-Rat Handover Under Weak Coverage.

Inventors include Kumar, Ranjit Ma; Maruf, Kazim Hanif; Kumar, Pappu; Nayak, Pintu; Mishra, Ritesh; and Kumar, Amit.

The application for the patent was published on July 03, 2026, under issue no. 27/2026.

Abstract: A user equipment (UE) (120) and method (300) are provided for autonomous inter-radio access technology (inter-RAT) handover. The UE (120) monitors a serving cell (108) associated with a first radio access technology (RAT) (110) using a measurement event configured by a base station (112), and detects a measurement event condition indicative of degradation of the serving cell (108). In response, the UE (120) performs inter-RAT measurements of one or more neighboring cells (114) associated with a second RAT (116), stores the results, and transmits a measurement report. If no handover or redirection command is received within a defined duration, the UE (120) initiates autonomous selection of a neighboring cell (114A) using the stored information and camps on the selected neighboring cell (114A) based on its signal quality.
