Abstract: ABSTRACT “UNIVERSAL ADJUSTABLE ORTHOPAEDIC CAST SUITABLE FOR DIFFERENT HAND DIMENSIONS” The present invention relates to an adjustable orthopaedic cast and a process and method for fabricating and using the same. The cast comprises a standardized modular structure formed of rigid and semi-rigid shell segments interconnected through mechanical adjustment interfaces and provided with ventilation openings. The cast is fabricated using additive manufacturing, particularly fused deposition modelling, from thermoplastic materials in predefined structural and lattice density ratios. The modularity allows for mechanical adjustment within a specified range after fabrication, allowing for the immobilization of various sizes of hands or forearms without the need for patient-specific scanning. The invention allows for a lightweight, ventilated, reusable, and scalable orthopaedic immobilization system that can be used in emergency, rehabilitation, and resource-poor clinical settings, thus shortening the time associated with the manufacture of traditional casts.
