Abstract: An Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) (200) system comprising a power factor detection unit (210) electrically connected to a battery (208) and an inverter (218), wherein the power factor detection unit (210) is configured to measure power factor using discharging current of the battery (208); a Short Circuit Reference Adjustment (SCRA) unit (212) configured to receive data from the power factor detection unit (210), wherein the SCRA unit (212) dynamically calibrates short circuit point within pre-determined range of power factor; and a protection unit (214) configured to receive signal from the SCRA unit (212), wherein the protection unit (214) interrupts power supply from the battery (208) to a load (204) for power factor exceeding pre-determined range.
