The application for the patent was published on August 28, 2026, under issue no. 35/2026.
Abstract: ULTRASONIC DEPTH AND OBSTACLE DETECTION CANE FOR FLOODED TERRAINS A low-power, smart walking aid that detects submerged hazards such as potholes and drains, by analyzing surface turbulence. Rather than attempting direct depth estimation, the controller of the walking cane utilizes a rolling buffer mechanism to compute the temporal variance of ultrasonic signals. This data is scaled by flow velocity to generate a velocity-weighted turbulence metric. By shifting the focus from physical depth to statistical indicators of water surface instability, this embedded controller provides a robust, highly accurate, and energy- efficient navigational solution for pedestrians in waterlogged conditions, drastically reducing false positive alerts.
