MUMBAI, India, Oct. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611104449 A) filed by Chandigarh University on August 31, 2026, for Ultrasonic And Optical Fusion System For Automated E-Waste Plastic Sorting.
Inventor includes Abhay Yadav.
The application for the patent was published on October 09, 2026, under issue no. 41/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to an ultrasonic and optical fusion system for automated e-waste plastic sorting that integrates a near-infrared (NIR) spectrometer for identifying light-colored and transparent polymers with an acoustic sensor module (ASM) that utilizes ultrasonic wave characteristics, including acoustic impedance, sound velocity, and reflection profiles, to accurately classify black and dark-colored plastics independent of surface color. A machine learning-based fusion logic control unit (FLCU) intelligently combines optical and acoustic data, dynamically selecting the most reliable sensing modality based on confidence evaluation to achieve accurate polymer identification. An X-ray fluorescence (XRF) sensor detects hazardous contaminants, while a high-precision water jet ejection array separates classified materials into dedicated collection streams, enabling efficient, high-throughput, and energy-efficient e-waste plastic recycling.
