MUMBAI, India, Aug. 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641094507 A) filed by Manipal Academy Of Higher Education on August 04, 2026, for U-Bent Optical Fiber Aptasensor And Method For Selective Detection Of Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1.
Inventors include Maargavi Singh; Kapil Sadani; Pooja Nag; and Sajan D George.
The application for the patent was published on August 21, 2026, under issue no. 34/2026.
Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to a U-bent optical fiber aptasensor (100) and method (200) for selective detection of herpes simplex virus type 1. The aptasensor (100) includes optical fiber assembly (102), plasmonic nanostructure layer (104), molecular recognition layer (106), sample interaction region (108), optical interrogation assembly (110), signal acquisition unit (112), processing unit (114) and output unit (116). The molecular recognition layer (106) includes HSV-1-specific aptamers (106-1) configured to selectively bind HSV-1 particles. The optical interrogation assembly (110) is configured to direct incident optical radiation through optical fiber assembly (102). The signal acquisition unit (112) is configured to measure optical characteristics corresponding to localized surface plasmon resonance. The processing unit (114) is configured to determine a concentration of HSV-1 by correlating changes in the measured optical characteristics with target-induced refractive index variations produced by conformational changes of the immobilized aptamers following selective binding of HSV-1.
