MUMBAI, India, Oct. 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621093464 A) filed by Prof. Dr. Anjali Choudhary; Ms. Ananya Shrivastava; and Ms. Bharti Nayak on August 01, 2026, for Tumour Microenvironment-Responsive Plant Polysaccharide-Coated Hybrid Nanocarrier For Co- Delivery Of Curcumin And A Chemotherapeutic Agent.

Inventors include Prof. Dr. Anjali Choudhary; Ms. Ananya Shrivastava; and Ms. Bharti Nayak.

The application for the patent was published on October 02, 2026, under issue no. 40/2026.

Abstract: A hybrid nanocarrier is disclosed, comprising a biodegradable poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) core co-encapsulating curcumin and a chemotherapeutic agent, an intermediate chitosan layer which is optionally crosslinked with zinc(II), and an outer coating (12) of a plant-derived anionic polysaccharide such as that obtained from Moringa oleifera. The two shell layers form a polyelectrolyte complex whose integrity is pH-dependent, so that protonation of the chitosan amine functions in the acidic tumour microenvironment causes the shell to swell and the two payloads to be co-released at the target site. The nanocarrier has a mean diameter of from 50 nm to 300 nm and releases its payload at pH 5.0 at not less than twice the rate obtaining at pH 7.4. A process for the preparation of the nanocarrier and a pharmaceutical composition containing it are also disclosed.
