MUMBAI, India, Aug. 10 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611073820 A) filed by Noida Institute Of Engineering And Technology Niet on June 14, 2026, for Tri-Elicitor System And Automated Apparatus For Enhancing Nutritional Quality Of Chinese Kale Sprouts.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a method for enhancing the nutritional and functional quality of Chinese kale sprouts using a staged tri-elicitor system comprising chitosan oligosaccharides, selenium nanoparticles, and methyl jasmonate during hydroponic cultivation. Chitosan oligosaccharides are applied during dark germination to stimulate defense signalling and phenylpropanoid metabolism. Selenium nanoparticles are administered during the early photosynthetic phase for selenium biofortification and glucosinolate pathway activation, while methyl jasmonate is introduced during late growth to promote indolic glucosinolate accumulation. Sequential application minimizes antagonistic interactions among elicitors. The treated sprouts exhibited total glucosinolate content of ninety-two point four micromoles per gram dry weight, representing a two point one six-fold increase over controls, along with elevated selenium, phenolics, flavonoids, carotenoids, and antioxidant activity. The invention further provides an automated sprouting apparatus with programmable elicitor delivery and environmental feedback control for producing packaged functional sprouts with extended shelf life.
