Abstract: The present invention provides a tri-component modified glass ionomer cement powder engineered for restorative dental use, especially in pediatric patients at high caries risk. The powder comprises fluoroaluminosilicate glass as the primary reactive phase, nano-hydroxyapatite as a reinforcing and calciumphosphate- releasing phase, and bioactive glass as a remineralizing and apatite-forming phase. A preferred formulation per 100 g powder consists of 80 g fluoroaluminosilicate glass, 10 g nano-hydroxyapatite, and 10 g 45S5-type bioactive glass. The modified powder is designed to be used with an aqueous polyacrylic-acid-based liquid and, upon mixing, forms a chemically cured restorative cement having improved compressive strength, flexural strength, surface microhardness, fluoride release, calcium/phosphate ion release, and bioactivity relative to conventional glass ionomer cements. The nano-hydroxyapatite phase reinforces the cement matrix and supplies calcium and phosphate ions, while the bioactive glass phase promotes surface apatite formation and contributes to remineralization of adjacent hard tissues. The invention further relates to powder formulations in which nano-hydroxyapatite is present in the range of 5-10 wt% and bioactive glass is present in the range of 5-15 wt%, while the fluoroaluminosilicate glass constitutes the balance of the reactive powder phase. Within these ranges, the powder provides a favorable balance between mechanical integrity and bioactivity for restorative applications.
