Abstract: Methods of treating UC and IBD are disclosed herein. Particularly, it has been found that by blocking the redox activity of APE1/Ref-1, the elevated expression of HIF- 1a in HSPCs is inhibited and the dynamics of HSPCs both in normal and Dnmt3a mutant mice under inflammatory milieu of UC is reversed. It has further been found that blocking the redox activity of APE1/Ref-1 is useful for treating IBD. The use of an APE1/Ref-1 inhibitor in a medicament for treating UC and IBD are disclosed herein.
