Abstract: This project presents an IoT-based transmission line monitoring and fault detection system designed to enhance the reliability and safety of power distribution networks. The system employs an ESP32 microcontroller integrated with voltage and current sensors to continuously monitor electrical parameters on a simulated transmission line. Fault conditions including line break, short circuit, and overload are artificially inducedusing switches to evaluate system performance. Sensor data is processed locallyattheedge,enablingreal-timedetectionofabnormalities.Uponfault identification, the system instantaneously activates a buzzer for on-site audible warning and illuminates indicator LEDs for immediate visual status feedback. Concurrently, all monitored data is transmitted wirelessly to the Thing Speak cloud platform, facilitating remote visualization, fault logging, and alert generation. This edge-cloud integration combines the speed of local response with the analytical capabilities of cloud computing. The proposed solution offers a low-cost, scalable approach to smart grid monitoring, significantly reducing fault response times, improving operational safety, and enabling predictive maintenance strategies. The prototype successfully demonstrates real-time fault detection, localized alerting, and seamless cloud communication, validating its effectiveness for modern power management applications.
