The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.

Abstract: With rising urban congestion and vehicle density, there is a need to enhance the safety of urban roads while maintaining the efficiency of travel. Based on this premise, the study proposes a smart traffic signal system. The system is conceived to be smart enough to alter the timing of traffic lights dynamically based on input from various sensors, to prioritize the movement of emergency vehicles and also ensure the safety of pedestrians. An emergency vehicle is equipped with a RF device through which it is identified and thus receives a green light when the vehicle who wields the device approaches the traffic signal. The road users in the vicinity are also informed through the buzzer alert sound of the approaching emergency vehicle. Meanwhile, pedestrian requirements through IR/LDR sensors or push buttons are detected, and the corresponding signal time extensions and alerts are activated. In order to optimize signal timing and reduce congestion and the risk of accidents, the acoustic sensors examine traffic flow. The results of the experiments indicate that the system expedites the emergency response, reduces delays, and increases safety at intersections. The method put forward here is a well, grounded one which if put into use on a large scale will lead to efficient and safe urbane transport networks.
