MUMBAI, India, Sept. 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641064132 A) filed by Srm Institute Of Science And Technology Tiruchirappalli on May 21, 2026, for Traffic Signal Control System.

Inventors include Charan Jeoti M; and Dr. M Mathan Kumar.

The application for the patent was published on September 04, 2026, under issue no. 36/2026.

Abstract: The current invention pertains to an adaptive traffic signal control system intended for dynamic control of vehicular traffic at road intersections, taking into account real-time traffic information. The system includes a traffic data acquisition module designed for monitoring vehicular density and flow information, a processing and decision-making module designed for analyzing the acquired data based on predefined optimization logic, and a signal actuation module connected to traffic signal infrastructure for executing calculated signal phase change values. The processing module allocates green signal time proportionally based on lane-wise vehicular demand and adjusts dynamic signal cycle time through a closed-loop feedback control system. The system enables automatic and demand-responsive control, thus alleviating congestion, reducing vehicle waiting time, and increasing intersection capacity. In some embodiments, the system includes a priority handling module to support emergency or high-priority vehicles. The system design enables seamless integration with existing traffic infrastructure and scalability for simultaneous implementation at multiple intersections.
