MUMBAI, India, Sept. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641109741 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Chennai on September 12, 2026, for Traffic Signal Control System For Emergency Vehicle Corridor Management.
Inventors include Padmavathy T V; Abdul Quadir Md; Sakthivel G; and Arvind Vaithiyanathan.
The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.
Abstract: A traffic signal control system (100) for emergency vehicle (202) corridor management includes a plurality of sensing units (102) positioned at one or more traffic intersections (112) to capture roadway acoustic signals associated with approaching emergency vehicles (202), a processing unit (104) operatively coupled to sensing units (102), processing unit (104) includes one or more processors (104A) and a memory (104B) storing executable instructions. Processing unit (104) receives and filters captured roadway acoustic signals to remove background and environmental noise, extract acoustic features including frequency patterns, amplitude characteristics, temporal variations, and analyze extracted features using a machine learning engine (104D-6) to detect and classify emergency vehicle (202) audio signatures. Processing unit (104) may further determine an estimated approach path of emergency vehicle (202), generate an emergency detection signal, modify traffic signal (110) phases, and transmit synchronization signals, via a communication unit (108) to adjacent traffic intersections (112) for corridor synchronization.
