MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541092733 A) filed by C. B. C. I. Society For Medical Education on September 26, 2025, for Tracing In Vivo Absorption Of Microbially Derived Metabolites.
Inventors include Shalini Hegde; Anura Vishwanath Kurpad; and Ambily Sivadas.
The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.
Abstract: In an aspect of the present disclosure, a composition for tracing absorption of microbially derived metabolites in humans includes at least one stable isotope labelled dietary substrate. The at least one stable isotope labelled dietary substrate undergoes microbial fermentation in gut of a human subject, producing at least one stable isotope labelled metabolite, where the at least one stable isotope labelled metabolite is systemically absorbed, and the at least one stable isotope labelled metabolite is traced in a biological sample obtained from the human subject. In an embodiment, the composition includes an edible matrix, where the at least one stable isotope labelled dietary substrate is provided along with the edible matrix. In another embodiment, the composition includes a stable carbon isotope labelled substance coated with a polymer, where the polymer coating disintegrates in the gut causing the stable carbon isotope labelled substance to be released as isotope labelled carbon dioxide.
